Tuesday, April 25th

We continued to present song lyrics and commentaries on them.  We also read and discussed Christopher Marlowe’s “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” (25), and the parody of it by Ogden Nash called “Love Under the Republicans (Or the Democrats)”.  We also read an example of a parody that a former grade 10 student wrote.

Now, it’s your turn.  Write your own parody of “The Passionate Shepherd…” on any topic you like.  It must have:

  • six quatrains
  • aa,bb,cc,dd, etc. rhyme scheme
  • iambic tetrametre in each line
  • appropriate imagery
  • literary devices such as: similes, metaphors, alliteration, allusions, etc.

This is due on Monday, May 1st.

The remaining 8 people will present their lyrics and commentaries next class. Everyone should have a running list of their favourite lines from EACH song.
