Our Poetry unit will be short this year. We will be writing commentaries on the lyric poetry you brought in today. Last class, using “Dissection,” we looked at the use of imagery and figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification). Today,using “Dream Deferred” (126), “Fire and Ice” (121), and “All the World’s a Stage” (127), we looked at denotation and connotation in the diction as well as patterns, such as rhyme, repetition, and rhythm. Re-read the poem you have chosen, looking for these features. We will carry on with this next class. Please bring your poem with you.
