Monday, Oct. 31st

While we did the silent reading, I checked half of the reading journals from the previous classes.  I collected the journals from those I didn’t get to during the reading time.  Next class, I’ll start from the opposite side of the room, and collect the other half of the journals.

We did a “pictionary/old maid” exercise to become more familiar with the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, and then we continued watching and writing about Mississippi Burning.

Continue to read To Kill A Mockingbird on your own.

Thursday, Oct. 27th

We spent ten minutes in silent reading of To Kill A Mockingbird.  Most of you got up to at least page five.  Keep going.  Read as much of the novel as possible.  We will be discussion chapters 1-3 in detail on Friday, Nov. 4th, but it would behoove you to read well beyond that by then.

We continued our READING JOURNAL with observations and responses to the film, Mississippi Burning. I’ll be collecting the journal periodically to have a written dialogue with you throughout this unit.

Wednesday, Oct. 5th

We finished reading and discussing Act IV of Romeo and Juliet today before going over the CRITERIA for the scene performance and choosing groups.  You will be given class time to work on this.

In the meantime, write out FIVE character traits you find in Juliet.  Find quotations demonstrating these five traits in preparation for the paragraph you will be writing next class.

Monday, Oct. 3rd

We continued working our way through Romeo and Juliet, getting to the end of IV.i..  We did a quiz on Act I-III to get a sense of how well you are understanding the play.  At the end of Act IV, you will be writing a paragraph on the character of Juliet.  It would be wise to review her lines and the traits these reveal in her character.  It would also be wise to start studying for the test at the end of this unit.
